Makita Receives Letter of Appreciation from Aichi Governor for Contribution to Local Firefighting Activities

On November 1, 2012, Makita’s Okazaki Plant, in Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, received a letter of appreciation from the governor of Aichi Prefecture for its contributions to the promotion of local firefighting activities.

The letter was given to honor volunteer fire prevention activities by the nine employees at our Okazaki Plant and Head Office (located in Anjo City, Aichi Prefecture) as local firefighting members. The Firefighting Head Office of Okazaki City recommended awarding the nine with the letter of appreciation.

For firefighting purposes, in case of fire in a company building or neighboring district, employees at the Head Office and Okazaki Plant have formed their own firefighting teams for self defense. The team at the Head Office is a member of the Anjo City Association for Fire Prevention and Safety of Hazardous Materials and has won the prize 30 times against other firefighting teams for self defense in pump handling techniques in competitions that have been held 46 times up to 2010 at the Anjo City Fire Department. Currently, the team displays practical training on pump operations rather than handling techniques for representatives from the Anjo City Fire Department and others every autumn.

Some of the nine employees active as local firefighters also belong to the firefighting team at the Head Office. Through daily training, they are trying to raise awareness of fire prevention and improve their firefighting skills so they can quickly take necessary actions in case of disaster.
